Research area Bernhard Kittel

Solidary state, markets and justice is a research area which studies the structure of modern economies and the influence of economic dynamics on societal integration and cohesion. It focuses on individual attitudes, behavior and interactions as well as societal institutions and the ibnterplay of the individual and the societal level. Next to climate change, socio-economic inequality is a core societal challenge of current times and an important liability for the strengthening of a solidary, trustful and democratic societal order. This proposition guides concrete research streams which are currently the topic of research projects:

  • Distribution preferences and need-based justice
  • Popular attitudes toward the solidary state
  • Marginalized groups in the labor market
